How to Keep Your Black Beautiful
There are four basic steps that are used to care for all types, shades and textures of skin.
Practicing these basics can prevent skin problems and keep your Black beautiful, healthy and
clean, no matter what your age or skin type.

  • Cleansing
  • Exfoliating
  • Rebalancing your pH level
  • Moisturizing

Great skin starts when you determine your skin care goals and take the necessary steps to
improve the overall appearance of your skin.  With the proper skin care, you can get a
particular issue under control, prevent further damage, slow the appearance of aging or just
perk up your complexion.  Your ultimate results depend upon your commitment to your skin care
regime as well as:

  • Knowing your skin type
  • Avoiding extractions, squeezing bumps or zit popping
  • Avoiding bar soaps because they strip the natural oils from our skin resulting in
    "ashiness"
  • Exfoliating on a weekly basis with a gentle exfoliant
  • Rebalancing the pH level of the skin with an astringent
  • Using a moisturizer, even if oily skin, to seal moisture into the skin
  • Targeting specific issues like hyperpigmentation, breakouts and other skin imperfections

Unfortunately, many of us believe that since we are slow to wrinkle that we do not have to care
for our skin.  However, as we age, our skin needs become more complex and a broad
approach must be taken over all of the factors in our aging process.  In addition to proper
nutrition and health care, a daily application of skin care products can play an important role in
preserving and rejuvenating your skin.  While we all have to deal with Mother Nature and Father
Time, the following tips will help maintain "timeless" beauty and health of African-American skin:

  • Minimize environmental impact on your skin (limit sun exposure)
  • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated
  • Moisturize skin with emollient-rich products
  • Use sunscreen to avoid uneven skin tones
  • Use topical products that contain peptides to stimulate collagen and elastin
  • Use topical products that contain Vitamin C to brighten your skin tone
