Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get a facial?
It varies from person to person. Ideally, get a facial every four to six weeks because that's how long it
takes the skin to regenerate. Try to have a facial at least four times a year, as the season changes. You
may need it more frequently if you are trying to clear up a case of acne, especially at the beginning.
Otherwise, once a month is plenty.
What can I do about hyperpigmentation?
Address the problem that causes the hyperpigmentation. If you have acne and breakouts, treat the acne
and breakouts with appropriate products. Always use sunscreen to prevent the spots from getting
darker.
Will petroleum products soften my skin?
Petroleum will not penetrate or nourish the skin. It will help prevent the evaporation of moisture from the
skin. It will also protect the skin from irritation because it coats the skin with an oily barrier.
What causes dark circle under the eyes?
There are several causes -- hereditary, allergies, poor blood drainage from tissue under the eyes or
aging. You can camouflage them using makeup. You can also use an under eye moisturizing cream that
brightens the delicate skin under the eye. Additionally, use a make-up remover that thoroughly and
gently clean around the eye.
What can be done about razor bumps?
Razor bumps is a condition where the hair grows slightly under the skin causing a bacterial infection.
You can shave after showering while the skin is soft or use a hot steam towel to soften the skin; use of a
single edge blade with a rich saving gel containing a moisturizing or conditioning agent will put less
tension on the hair.
How do I control my oily skin?
Oily skin requires more cleansing and exfoliating than other skin types. Use products that control or
sedate excessive oil and balance the pH levels of your skin. Since oily skin is more prone to acne, you
should also use an astringent or toner that will fight bacteria on the skin.
What is sensitive skin?
The skin is characterized by redness and is easily irritated. It has less tolerance of chemical
substances. (If your skin is sensitive, you should use fragrance-free and oil-free products that are
hypoallergenic. You should also do a patch test before trying any new product.)
What causes acne?
There is a hereditary factor involved. It starts with hormones causing excessive oil and the oil not getting
out of the pore. The combination of the excessive oil and buildup of dead skin cells form a blockage and
clogs the pore. Bacteria (propionic acid bacteria) exist in the pore and cause the skin to become
inflamed.
How important is the pH level of skin?
The pH factor of the skin works as a defense by fighting certain forms of bacteria and germs. When your
pH level is too low or too high, inflammation occurs. You should use products that help balance the pH
level of your skin.
